UNEP-WCMC welcomes visitors to Protected Planet Pavilion at World Parks Congress

As the World Parks Congress gets underway in Sydney, Australia, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) are ready to welcome visitors to the Protected Planet Pavilion. With over 100 events due to take place in the Protected Planet Pavilion over the next eight days of the Congress, a UNEP-WCMC team is currently in Sydney to deliver the exciting programme of events that offers opportunities to network and discuss the latest innovations in the management and conservation of protected areas.

As the co-hosts of the Protected Planet Pavilion, UNEP and IUCN have curated a timetable that features film screenings, demonstrations, discussions, and report launches. Congress attendees are welcome to drop in any time to speak with our experts about the World Database on Protected Areas (WDPA), data visualisation or World Heritage. Evenings in the Protected Planet Pavilion will be dedicated to high-profile launches and celebrations of conservation successes.

On Sunday 16 November, a special edition of EcoHack will take place in the Protected Planet Pavilion. EcoHack brings together designers, hackers and scientists to build tools and create visualisations that tell stories which help us understand and protect the environment. The EcoHack in Sydney is just one of six events that will be taking place across the world on the same day, including a session that is being hosted by UNEP-WCMC in Cambridge.

Located in the social hub of the World Parks Congress, the Protected Planet Pavilion is the perfect place to meet other visitors to the Congress. Open from 7am to 8.30pm, make sure you visit the Protected Planet Pavilion if you attending the World Parks Congress.

The World Parks Congress takes place 12-19 November 2014.
