UNEP-WCMC would like to announce the launch of the updated Biodiversity A-Z website. The site provides concise and authoritative information about biodiversity in an accessible and simple manner.

Content is presented in the form of articles, factsheets and definitions. The new website structure divides the information up into easy to browse biodiversity-related themes, including two new themes - Marine and Acronyms - and has a new and powerful search.

As with any specialist field, conservation can contain complex concepts and confusing terminology. The Biodiversity A-Z is a reliable resource that helps to clarify biodiversity-related topics. It can be used by specialists and non-specialists alike, and provides both scientific information and details on the business and social relevance of terms. Information is presented in a concise manner, and is compiled by experts. This update includes a new website design with thematic groupings and user-friendly pages that make this tool quick and easy to use.

The new Biodiversity A-Z structure includes four themes. The ‘Areas’ theme contains updated factsheets on Areas of Biodiversity Importance and provides detailed explanations of the different types of area classifications, including their levels of protection and their significance for biodiversity. The ‘Terms’ theme makes accurate definitions of biodiversity-related terminology accessible under a unified platform. The newly-added ‘Marine’ theme provides useful factsheets on marine-specific features while the new ‘Acronyms’ theme includes over 250 commonly-used acronyms in the field of conservation.
